BRAKE SYSTEM: Let's talk about the brake system for awhile. As this illustration depicts, when the brake pedal is depressed the brake fluid builds up hydraulic pressure in the master cylinder. This pressurized brake fluid is then sent to the proportioning valve, which, in turn, distributes the fluid under pressure to the front and rear wheel via the brake line to slow and stop the car. The disc brake system, which is found on the front wheels of most cars and also at the rear wheels of some cars, utilizes a rotor which spins with the wheel, and as the brake is applied, pressurized brake fluid enters the caliper under pressure and forces the hydraulic piston against the brake pads which sandwich against the rotor and slows the car. No brake adjustment is necessary on a disc brake system.
